Casimir energy in the Fulling–Rindler vacuum
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Casimir energy is evaluated for massless scalar fields under Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions, and for the electromagnetic field with perfect conductor boundary conditions on one and two infinite parallel plates moving by uniform proper acceleration through the Fulling–Rindler vacuum in an arbitrary number of spacetime dimension. For the geometry of a single plate both regions of the right Rindler wedge, (i) on the right (RR region) and (ii) on the left (RL region) of the plate are considered. The zeta function technique is used, in combination with contour integral representations. The Casimir energies for separate RR and RL regions contain pole and finite contributions. For an infinitely thin plate taking RR and RL regions together, in odd spatial dimensions the pole parts cancel and the Casimir energy for the whole Rindler wedge is finite. In d = 3 spatial dimensions the total Casimir energy for a single plate is negative for Dirichlet scalar and positive for Neumann scalar and the electromagnetic field. The total Casimir energy for two plates geometry is presented in the form of a sum of the Casimir energies for separate plates plus an additional interference term. The latter is negative for all values of the plates separation for both Dirichlet and Neumann scalars, and for the electromagnetic field. PACS number(s): 03.70.+k, 11.10.Kk

The Casimir effect in the Fulling–Rindler vacuum
The vacuum expectation values of the energy–momentum tensor are investigated for massless scalar fields satisfying Dicichlet or Neumann boundary conditions, and for the electromagnetic field with perfect conductor boundary conditions on two infinite parallel plates moving by uniform proper acceleration through the Fulling–Rindler vacuum. The scalar case is considered for general values of the c...
متن کاملWightman function and Casimir densities for Robin plates in the Fulling–Rindler vacuum
Wightman function, the vacuum expectation values of the field square and the energy– momentum tensor are investigated for a massive scalar field with an arbitrary curvature coupling parameter in the region between two infinite parallel plates moving by uniform proper acceleration. We assume that the field is prepared in the Fulling–Rindler vacuum state and satisfies Robin boundary conditions on...
متن کاملGravitational and Inertial Mass of Casimir Energy
It has been demonstrated, using variational methods, that quantum vacuum energy gravitates according to the equivalence principle, at least for the finite Casimir energies associated with perfectly conducting parallel plates. This conclusion holds independently of the orientation of the plates. We review these arguments and add further support to this conclusion by considering parallel semitran...
متن کاملThe Energy-momentum Tensor in Fulling-rindler Vacuum
The energy density in Fulling-Rindler vacuum, which is known to be negative " everywhere " is shown to be positive and singular on the horizons in such a fashion as to guarantee the positivity of the total energy. The mechanism of compensation is displayed in detail. 1 1. Introduction In connection with the problem of the radiation emitted and absorbed by an accelerating observer [1, 2, 3, 10, ...

In this paper we study the Casimir effect for conformally coupled massless scalar fields on background of Static dS 4+1 spacetime. We will consider the general plane– symmetric solutions of the gravitational field equations and boundary conditions of the Dirichlet type on the branes. Then we calculate the vacuum energy-momentum tensor in a configuration in which the boundary branes are moving b...
